BLOG POST 1: Story Pitch Ideas

When it comes to my ideas for my animation, I want to create something wonderful, with a good story, and good characters. I want to go above and beyond and make something that I will be proud of. I could do something relating to me, or experiences I've had, like a lot of thesis films. However, I think that when it comes to these stories, I'd rather make something more creatively challenging and something I feel passionate about, with maybe some themes mixed in that I want to show.

I have experience with online, animated mediums. I've done intensive research into how it works, the good, the bad, the process... and with a few years of art under my belt and still learning, I'm very excited to take on this project.

I'd want this project to be a culmination of my skills, with a focus on visuals and creative story writing. I want to explore my style and express it through character design, scenery, and development of said characters.

I also have experience with video editing, sound design, and even have a professional setup for video rendering, computer power, and a professional microphone that could even constitute some voice acting. I'm very, very excited to get into this project!

 STORY PITCH 1:

With this, I have a few ideas. One of them came to me in a dream.

I dreamt of a crystal clear ocean, with a port city situated on the shore. The ocean is unmoving, with the bottom littered with all kinds of objects, small, to larger, like marbles, plushies, cars, furniture, etc.

These objects represent memories. Or maybe things forgotten by people. These objects, when fished up and removed, are forgotten completely from the original owners. This ocean and these objects wouldn't be physical, per se, but would most likely exist purely in the mind.

The story could maybe follow a pirate, scavenging the ocean for valuable things that people have lost or forgotten about. Or maybe a child, who finds themself lost, looking for an object that was once their own.

I'd love to explore this theme and get a coherent story developed about it.

STORY PITCH 2: What I'll Be Going With!

I've been doing a lot of thinking, and my basic story is going to be about... pancakes!

I want to animate a small, cute story about making pancakes! I imagine the story would go down something along the lines of... a character wakes up in the morning, with beautiful, early light shining through the windows to their kitchen, with a nice focus on the natural yellow light, similar to the visual style of the later parts of Mr. Carefree Butterfly, a big inspiration to me.

Eventually, after showing the character make and eventually struggle with flipping the pancake, I would make a short montage of different failed attempts, slowly making the morning light turn darker, with the final, very overexaggerated, successful flip happening with the atmosphere looking about sunset.

Then, when they sit down and go to eat... they fall asleep at the table, faceplanting into the pancake..
